Care Coordination, Autism Waiver Program

The Autism Waiver in Maryland assists parents of children with severe autism spectrum disorder to receive supportive services in their own homes and communities. Children who may be eligible include those who

• Are aged 1 through the semester marking the child’s 21st birthday
• Have an IEP or IFSP
• Receive more than 12 hours per week of special education and related services
• Meet an institutional level of care
• Can be served in the community with waiver services
• Are not enrolled in any other home and community based waiver program; can be enrolled in REM

Based on the child’s needs and the requirements of the program, families and children may be eligible to receive the following supportive services:

• Respite care
• Environmental accessibility adaptations
• Family training
• Supported employment
• Intensive Individual Support Services
• Residential habilitation
• Targeted case management

The Coordinating Center is working with several school systems in Maryland to provide care management through this program.
